Windshield Crack Repair

How do you know when to repair and when to replace?  There really is no easy answer, but if you have a crack that is covering half the windshield, it’s pretty safe to say that this constitutes a replacement job.  If you have more than three chips or small cracks in your windshield, then according to most insurance companies, the standard answer is to replace.  Where the answer gets a little fuzzy is when the chip or crack is in the field of vision for the driver.  In cases like this, it really needs to be brought to a professional to see if they believe they can repair the damage, leaving no evidence except for a pinhead entry point, and guarantee that no further running of a crack will occur.  Many companies dabble in this business, and many retailers sell DIY products that try to fix these star-breaks, but only a handful of companies have the proper technology to do a professional repair.  The benefits to bringing it to a professional is that if the crack does return, most large retailers have warrantees that will credit you back the cost of the repair when a new windshield needs to be replace.  At Speedy Glass we have been doing professional repairs for over 25 years.
